Last week we finally were able to have the gas fireplace in our living room replaced with a more efficient one. We also wanted to make the room seem a bit warmer and more inviting. The photo below shows how we so artfully disguised what had to have been one of the two worst gas fireplaces ever made. The other one unfortunately still resides in all of its glory just off the kitchen.

The whole process took just two days with a crew of three the first day and two the second. Here you see the new gas fireplace has been installed and a new mantel mounted to the wall. At this point new pipe for the stove had been inserted inside the old pipe all the way up the chimney.
Almost done.....

End results. For some strange reason I find myself reading a lot more in the living room.

I really like the materials and the style that you two settled upon. I can't believe how much it transforms the room. It was very nice before but now it looks very welcoming in contrast. I can understand curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee feeling the warmth from the fire. Nice!
Very well done!! It makes the room so inviting and adds a lot of interest. The choice of stonework and craftsmanship with which it is laid is superb. We will definitely have to come around for a closer look and the coffee and warmth Mark mentions! (Also nice to see the famous driveway photo on display.)
This absolutely transforms the living room. I already liked it, particularly the beautiful flooring, but the stonework goes beautifully with the wood floor, and, to my eye, goes better with the view outside, seeing the natural stones (what a puzzle to figure out!) and the natural grass. I was also glad you included work shots because this reminds me that fireplaces don't just happen.
